STEAM week 2023

Welcome to our STEAM page. Across the week children have been working with scientists from all scientific fields. Every year group has had their own area of science to explore and research a specific scientists. We aim to challenge stereotypes and allow children to believe that any one of them could become a scientist.

Nursery and Reception

Our area of focus was zoology and we have loved learning about David Attenborough. We became jungle explorers and learnt all about what animals he studies. During the week we had visits from Helen at the Northumberland Wildlife Trust and Gladys (the pony) and Morgan from Stepney Bank Stables.

Year 2

This week we have learnt all about pollution and  have had so many fantastic visitors. We have learnt about pollution in our oceans and the River Ouseburn. Our famous scientist was Greta Thunberg and her impact on our world.

Year 3

Our STEAM week focus was energy and we have loved learning about   Joseph Bazalgette and designing     futuristic toilets to help make clean  energy. Our visitors have inspired us to think about our world and how we can improve it.

Year 4

During this week we have learnt all about Rosalind Franklin and were lucky enough to have a visit from Emma Holliday who created an inspiring painting all about her. We were discovering all about the world of  pathology and what goes on     inside our bodies.

Year 5

Wow, what a week we’ve had learning about Earth and Space Science. Our visitors shared their knowledge of glaciers on Earth and on Mars and we took part in an amazing workshop, where we built our own Mars Rovers. We have studied Stephen Hawking and it has been interesting to study his life and work.

Year 6

Look out world, Year 6 are all engineers in the making! We have enjoyed listening to all our visitors from the field of engineering and have thrived in the activities shared with us. Our Famous scientist was Mary Golda Ross and what an inspiration she is!
